IC
In character. The player is responding to situations in the game based on the point of view of the character they are managing.
IRL
In Real Life.
MUSH
Chat server. Indivduals connect as a specific 'character' for discussion. Frequently allows players to construct 'props' for their character to use and to construct and decorate suites of 'rooms' where discussion can occur.
OOC
Out of character. The player is not in character. Their 'dialog' and responses are their own, not the responses of a specific character.
RPG
Role-playing Game

Some terms for various types of interaction:
Joe Smith   The Player, in real life, IRL
Mallick   The Character, on-line
Joe, connected as Mallick, responding as Joe Mallick wufs, "The commute was a bear today." Off-stage
Joe, connected as Mallick, responding as Joe, in Mallick's idiom Mallick wags his tail and says, "Milady, the commute was most foul today." Masked
Joe, connected as Mallick, responding as Mallick Mallick barks, "The pyramid of the Undead King is opening!" In character, IC
Joe, connected as Joe, responding as Joe Joe says, "The commute was a bear today." Out of character, OOC
